[im Original:] Dear Susanne,

I was very happy to hear from you. There is so many things I have to tell you.

After this year, I have one more year of high-school. Then I will go to university and take science and mathematics.

Last summer, I worked for the government as a typist. I’ll never do that again. Its too boring, for me at least. In August, I went for a trip to Quebec. The school gave me the chance to go. Twenty-three other students went. We first went to Montreal. We saw Expo site. We then travelled north to Lake St. John. Each student stayed with a French student and his family. I stayed with the Plouide family – 11 kids and then me! At times, I found it difficult to understand them. Every person has a different tone. I’m used to my French’ teacher’s voice. On our way back, we visited the Parliament Buildings. I saw Mr. Pearson’s home – – big thrill!! The trip was sponsored by the Centennial Youth Commission. If you want a French-speaking pen-pal, just tell me and I will find you one. I write to three French kids.

In the summer, I also went to see the Tynana Brass. They’re fabulous and very popular. Are they popular in Germany?

Right now, the Monkees are very popular as are Lovin’ Spoonfuls, Mama’s & Papa’s. The Beatles are dying out.

My family had a nice Christmas. I slept a great deal during my holidays. What movies are popular there. Here – Hawaii, Georgy Girl, Alfie.

The fashion is very “mod” here – mini-skirts, all-coloured shirts & pants, leather, suede.

School keeps me very busy. I see you are very busy too.

The weather here is very fickle. One week it is warm, another it is cold and stormy.

You must be very lucky to go to school in England. I hope you find someone to stay with.

Bye for now.

Your friend,

Gail.
